Proper management of earthing system hazards using risk assessment techniques will minimise the likelihood of incidents which could result in injury: an approach we strongly advocate.
If things do go wrong, determining the cause of incidents associated with earthing systems can be particularly challenging. An incident will usually have multiple causes and may result in minor damage, electrical system mal-operation or human injury.
In serious cases, the investigation will necessarily be far reaching, extending to associated activities and to companies’ organisational arrangements etc. In such situations there will be a need to work with professionals from health and safety and other technical disciplines to determine the root causes of the incident and to make sure there is no reoccurrence.
ERM has the breadth of professional knowledge and experience to advise companies in these circumstances, uniquely combining technical and health and safety know-how.
