Earthing Risk Management was founded following National Grid’s decision to close its R&D facility at Leatherhead.
The company was founded by Neil Pilling along with a number of other ex-National Grid employees in 2002 and initially provided earthing services to NG.
Since that time ERM’s client base has grown to include DNOs, renewables, railway and gas industries and power stations in addition to transmission.
From an initial five employees, ERM grew to fourteen and our range of services expanded to include Impressed Voltage, Lightning Protection and Pipeline Interference Studies.
ERM continues to participate in Industry Standards groups, and notably had a major input to the National Annexes in BS EN 50522, in particular the application of quantified risk assessment to earthing systems.
The Company also uses its specialist knowledge to provide earthing and lightning protection training to several sectors of industry.
In 2017 the Company was purchased by LSTC to complement their portfolio with Neil continuing to work for ERM as a consultant.
