Pipeline Interference (Corrosion) Studies

An HV or LV line running in parallel with a pipeline for any reasonable distance can induce significant voltages in the pipeline metalwork. Pipeline operators require reassurance that the parallelism will not cause hazardous conditions for their operatives or ac corrosion effects that could have serious implications. Where pipeline leakage and voltages levels exceed specific levels, pipeline interference mitigation design is necessary.

ERM has the capability to carry out simulations of complex service corridors, including transmission lines and underground circuits running close to pipelines.

ERM uses the advanced HIFREQ and ROW modules of the world-renowned CDEGS software to calculate both inductive and conductive interference and test designs for mitigation where shown to be necessary. The model can be calibrated against pipeline test post data where this is available.
